Cheques, contracts and invoices often need an amount written out in words as well as figures, because words are much harder to alter after the fact.
The two numbering systems group digits differently. The Indian system groups by thousand, lakh (100,000) and crore (10,000,000); the international system groups by thousand, million and billion. The same figure reads completely differently in each, so pick the one your document uses.

What is the difference between the Indian and international systems?
Grouping. 10,000,000 is one crore in the Indian system and ten million in the international one. The Indian system also groups digits as 1,00,00,000 rather than 10,000,000.
How do I write an amount on a cheque?
Most banks expect the words, then the currency, then 'only' — for example 'Twenty-five thousand rupees only'. Currency mode produces that phrasing.
Does it handle decimals?
Yes. In currency mode the fractional part becomes paise or cents; otherwise it is read out digit by digit after 'point'.
