About this favicon generator

A favicon is not one file any more. Browsers want 16 and 32 pixel versions, iOS wants a 180 pixel apple-touch-icon, and Android wants 192 and 512 for the web app manifest. Getting one of them wrong shows up as a blurry or missing icon somewhere.

Drop in a square image and this produces all of them, along with the link tags to paste into your HTML. The resizing happens on your device, so the image is never uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop in a square image — 512×512 or larger works best.
  2. Optionally add a background colour behind transparency, and round the corners.
  3. Download the sizes you need.
  4. Copy the generated HTML into the head of your page.

Favicon Generator — FAQ

What size should my source image be?

Square and at least 512×512. Anything smaller will look soft at the larger sizes, because upscaling cannot invent detail.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Rarely. Every current browser accepts PNG favicons via link tags. A .ico at the site root is only needed for very old browsers that request it blindly.

Why does my favicon look like a blur?

Detail that reads fine at 512 pixels disappears at 16. Favicons need to be a bold shape or a single letter — a full logo almost never survives the shrink.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Resizing happens in your browser with the canvas API.
