About this gpa & grade calculator

Two questions students actually ask. The first is what my GPA is, which means averaging grade points weighted by credit hours. The second, more urgent one, is what I need on the final to end up with the grade I want.

This does both, on the standard American 4.0 scale with optional plus/minus points, and it shows the arithmetic so you can check it rather than trusting a black box.

How to use it

  1. Add each course with its grade and credit hours.
  2. Your weighted GPA updates as you go.
  3. Switch to the final-exam tab to work backwards from a target grade.
  4. Enter your current mark and what the final is worth to see what you need.

GPA & Grade Calculator — FAQ

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours. A course worth more credits moves your average more.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted caps every course at 4.0. Weighted gives extra points for honours or AP courses, so it can exceed 4.0. This calculator weights by credit hours; use the bonus field for honours weighting.

Does every school use the 4.0 scale?

No. Plus/minus conventions, and scales themselves, vary between institutions and countries. Check your own handbook — this uses the most common US convention.

What if I need more than 100% on the final?

Then the target is not reachable, and the tool says so rather than showing an impossible number. Speak to your instructor about what is still available.
