About this bmi calculator

Body mass index is weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. It is a rough screening number, not a diagnosis — it does not distinguish muscle from fat, and it is not valid for children, pregnancy or athletes.

Use it as one signal among several, and speak to a doctor about anything health related.

How to use it

  1. Pick metric or imperial units.
  2. Enter your height and weight.
  3. Your BMI and its WHO category appear straight away.

BMI Calculator — FAQ

What is a healthy BMI?

The World Health Organization classes 18.5 to 24.9 as the normal range for adults, but it is a population-level guide, not personal medical advice.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not really. Muscle is denser than fat, so muscular people often score as overweight despite low body fat.

Does this work for children?

No. Children and teenagers need age- and sex-specific percentile charts instead.
